Temperance versus Disease Model (2)

Contrary to the Temperance Model that demonises the drug, the Disease Model attempts to de-demonise it (which, by the way, also pleases the drug producers). Labelling addiction a disease indicates that medical treatment is the intervention of choice and thus provides the medical profession with another welcome source of income. However, many treatment interventions are based on a rather broad dis-ease concept and operate totally independent of the treatment provided by medical professionals.
