I wish I had come earlier to the conclusion that the news don't do me any good, that they make me sick. Moreover, I'm dependent on them. In fact, I'm addicted to them.
The other day, while having numerous short glances at news websites, I all of a sudden got so angry that I had to turn the computer off. I'm not really sure anymore what triggered this reaction. I guess it had something to do with journalists or politicians who are always eager to blame somebody for something. Anyway, it doesn't really matter yet what I finally seemed to realise was that I wasn't anymore willing to listen to people who only care about themselves.
In 2003, Art Spiegelman, the graphic artist, was referred to in an article in The Independent: “He has banned himself from watching television - it makes him too angry.” I had often used this quote to explain my uneasiness when watching the news. Today, 23 years later, I seem to be finally ready to put into practise what I had so far "only known".
Only our actions reveal how we really think.
